Use Cognates! Many Grade 5 ELA terms are cognates - words that look and sound similar in English and Spanish because they share Latin roots. Words like "inference/inferencia," "perspective/perspectiva," "argument/argumento," and "synthesize/sintetizar" are almost identical! When you see a new English word, think about whether it sounds like a Spanish word you already know. This strategy can help you understand complex academic vocabulary more quickly.
