Honeybees: Nature's Helpers

Honeybees do much more than make honey. They are some of the most important insects on Earth because they help plants grow. When bees fly from flower to flower collecting nectar, they spread pollen. This pollen helps plants make seeds and fruit. Without bees, many of our favorite foods would disappear!

About one-third of the food we eat depends on bees. Apples, almonds, blueberries, and cucumbers all need bees to grow. Even the cotton used to make our clothes needs bee pollination. Farmers often bring beehives to their fields to help their crops grow better.

Sadly, honeybees are in danger. Pesticides, diseases, and loss of flowers are hurting bee populations. Many people are now planting bee-friendly gardens to help. By protecting bees, we protect ourselves and our food supply.
